Well, you know what? You might not respond, but you will read it. And I I want to take a second now before we start to talk about Spider-Man, brand new day. Um, shout out to Nick. Nick uh is a regular listener um of the whole two episodes, but uh listened to myself and my beautiful uh co-star of radio and my partner of many years, Dan, um, when he was uh working with me. Danny's no longer with us. I mean he's still alive.

He's not with us, although he has just sent me a voice note, which no doubt is very inappropriate. Um Dan is at uh a different network and it's very highbrow, and Dan can't podcast, understandably. But anyway, Nick sent a wonderful message saying that you are the sort of man that he aspires to be like, that you sound like a husband and father that he wants to be, that you are strong yet sensitive, that you are strong uh yet compassionate, that you so wonderfully articulate how you feel. And I didn't expect that message, but I really liked that because I think on this show it's important to our listeners that they have a representation of a great male as well. Um and you are all those things and more. I mean, that's why I married you.

There's not that I'm keeping tally. No, no one's perfect, but we're here and we're gonna do the best that we can. That's our daughter, she's eight months old, and she's here with us right now, probably. Um, as we record this, because like all parents we're you know, working parents on the multitasking, trying to make it work. But that's what we did the other night. So, Spider-Man brand new date, Tom Holland, Zandaya. Oh my god, let's talk about it. We went to the movies.

We did. This is like the first time you and I have actually gone to the movies, just you and I on a date night.

Yeah, and we've been together for almost a decade, yeah. Right? And we went to the movies.

We have gone to the movies before, but we've taken the kids, or we've done whatever, you know.

And that's not, let's be honest, that's not guiding the movies.

That's not a date night, that's just really expensive exercise.

That's a hell night. That's just parenting somewhere else harder for no reason and no reward. And they fall asleep at the movies anyway.

Well, Harley does. Like, this is the thing is I've taken I took him to go and see the last Spider-Man movie, he slept through it. I took him to go and see um Spider-Man through the Spideyverse, he slept through that. I took him to see Top Gun Maverick, the one of the loudest movies ever. Um, and he slept like literally before the movie started and through the entire movies. I don't know where he gets that from. I don't know. He still managed to eat the popcorn though.

That's what we did the other night, right? So we got out of a house. Uh shout out to Mama Deb. We all it takes a village sometimes, and if you're lucky enough to have a village around you, then you know what we're talking about. But sometimes you need to have a village with the kids. And so that's what we did. Um, Mumma came and looked after the kids while we went to Spider-Man brand new day, and we hadn't left the house together since we went and saw the foo fighters back um in January this year. We got and we were so lucky we got ex you know like the box seats to the food fighters in Lonceston when they came to Lonceston to Australia and they weren't going anywhere.

So that was a two and a half hour drive or whatever it was up there and then back. So it wasn't like we were popping down the road. Yeah.

But we did it.

It was a chore. We did do it. We did manage to do it. That was the first time we were actually apart from Love Heart, what we call uh Goldie Love Heart. That's our daughter. Yeah, uh when yeah, it was the first time we'd been apart from her uh on on a night, and yeah, we couldn't actually wait to get back, to be quite honest.

But you've got to do it right when you get an opportunity to go and just I think sometimes parents, especially new parents, people that have their first baby, please take heed. But even now, second and third, you have to take that time if opportunity presents itself to you. Just just take that little bit of time. The kids will be okay. It's good for the relationship, whatever the relationship is, um, to have that time where I mean they say it's the worst thing you can do for your sex life is call each other mummy and daddy when the kids have gone to bed. And I mean, I was calling you daddy last night at 10 p.m. and and not for particularly good reasons. I mean, you know, do you need bottles? Like, where are we? We've got nappies, nothing particularly sexy. But getting back on subject, we got out of the house. Yeah, Tom Holland, Zendaya, newlyweds.

I read um uh I read a great article, uh, well, just a little quote, because uh when the producer of the very first Spider-Man movie that they're in together warned them about dating and both uh individu individually said, please, you know, guys, you know, don't don't go down that road, don't go down the dating road. Um, because you know, obviously I think they had big plans for these guys in a film sense and didn't want anything to mess all that up. So um, and now she's laughing about it now, going, I don't think they took my advice, now they're married, so it's and they seem very, very happy.

But oh, it's the best thing for the s the films as well, because not only do you love MJ and Peter on screen, yeah, but you would door them off screen even more because they're Tom and Zendaya, or Marie, as he so affectionately calls her. That's her middle name. His name is Zendaya Marie. Um, but you hear about that the cast of friends, they all apparently had crushes on each other throughout the filming of that series. I mean, like you and most people around the world, I read Matthew Perry's amazing autobiography.

Well, he had a massive crush on um on Jen. On Jen Aniston and but she obviously she had a she had a big crush on um uh David Swimmer. So those two, you know, had a little bit of crush on. So yeah, it was it it's I I guess when you're working, I mean you and I work together. You you had a massive crush on me.

Yeah, you know that's totally what happened. I was flying my feet begging him to be with me. Uh no, I did. I had a crush on him very quickly.

Yeah, you proposed to me not long after. Uh but you do, like you meet in a working environment sometimes, and sometimes they say, Please don't go there, or how could you not? The the cast of friends were smart because there was more than two people involved. They had to make it work for 10 years, and so they said, Let's not, even though we all love each other so much, let's not dare go there just because we don't want to ruin this. And so they didn't. That's a very admirable thing to do, and particularly when you look at such talented people.

You do love Jennifer Aniston, though. Like she obviously Matthew Perry had a massive crush on her. Her and David Schwimmer had something enduring Friends, she married Brad Pitt.

I mean, you you know, you, you, you, or Brad, okay. Yeah, yeah. I've noticed you're speaking a lot about Jennifer Aniston, by the way. Should I, uh, you know, but you do like the funny girls, don't you? Is that the way you marry me?

How could you forget Jennifer Aniston? Um, but how can we how can we not love Tom Holland and Zendaya? Now the film itself, because you're a massive big Spider-Man fan.

Like all the Spider-Man over the years. Like I I I've loved every single Spider-Man is my go-to character as far as any superhero or anything like that. Always has been. I've got some pictures. Actually, they're next to me now at the moment, but I, you know, from of Jennifer Aniston. Of the original 1970s uh Spider-Man, it was played by Nicholas Hammond, who was Frederick in uh The Sound of Music. Um, you know, they did these series and they released them as movies here in Australia, like dual episodes and stuff, and I've actually got the posters. That's how far back it goes for me as far as Spider-Man. Um, but this one, this movie, like I couldn't wait for it after the last one. I just was really busting for it. So when we saw, you know, this was coming out, and it was it was probably six or eight weeks ago, I you know, I saw them and the tickets went on sale, so I booked us gold-class tickets so we could go and do it in style and have a have a date night. But it didn't disappoint. The movie didn't disappoint. It's just you know, and it's I think even for you who doesn't really follow the whole, you know, the movies, you know, and the whole sea sequence of events that have happened in the lead up and everything, but I know you enjoyed the meal the movie, so even if it's your first ever Spider-Man movie to go and see brand new days, just fabulous.

Well, I loved it. Like I because you're right, I didn't follow them along. I followed Tom Holland and Zendaya more closely as a couple in real life than I had throughout the course of Spider-Man movies, but not that I don't enjoy them. I think it was 2002, Toby Maguire came out to Australia, and I was lucky enough to go to the Spider-Man premiere, and he and Kirsten Dunce, the actress, were there, and there was a really cool after party, which I was absolutely under 18 but still snuck in. Um, you know, we were lucky with the cast at home no way. We got invited to that stuff, and um, I remember the last line of Spider-Man was I mean, I don't want to do Toby's voice, but it was him saying, I am Spider-Man. Um, and I thought, oh my god, what a cool hook for the next one. And so I started to realise even in that moment how um these movies are gonna perpetuate and be incredible and just have so much momentum, and then you saw the beautiful actor that is Andrew Garfield come along, who was, in my opinion, one of the most touching, heartfelt, beautiful actors of all time.

And he was a wonderful Spider-Man. I and and many people, including me, very disappointed he never got a third Spider-Man film. But uh obviously he was in the last Spider-Man with Toby. They both reprised their roles and and came in and this whole cross the multiverse thing, which was sensational. And I remember being, I mean, there was all rumors of this going around. I remember being in the cinema uh for that when they all came on together and everyone just cheered and how good it was, you know, uh having the three of them. But Tom Holland, uh, you know, he he is Spider-Man now. He is Spider-Man now. There is, you know, we look back at Toby, we look back at Andrew, and we go, you guys were great Garfields. There's great Garfields, great I don't think I don't think either of them ever played Garfield. Um but uh the great Spider-Man, but uh to um but um Tom Holland now is Spider-Man without a doubt. And uh he's locked in and apparently I saw that there's they've got him locked in quite possibly for another five films. They've got stories for five Spider-Man films still to come. And if they can lock in Tom Holland to play that, and I think the next one's a bit of a reboot. Anyway, it's uh I don't know how they'll do it, but now we've got to wait a couple of years. But I cannot wait.

And you know what? They didn't just lock in Tom, they locked in Zendale and Sadie, incredible, and Florence as well.

Like the girls are absolutely incredible, just like Kirsten was when she played MJ, because without without your MJ, you do not have John Beratanal as um uh as Frank the um the punisher, he was just awesome in it too. Um and even Mark uh Ruffalo came in, you know, and because we we see some Hulk in there without spoiler alerts and things like that. But sorry, spoiler alert. Yeah, well you know what? Deal with it.

Um but it was yeah, it was just really, really, really well done and just an awesome, awesome, awesome storyline, and it's got great, you know, got it's got a great future still to come. But um go and see it if you haven't seen it. Wait for the crowds to die down if you need to, but you've it's one of those films you have to see on the big screen.

And stay for the end of the credits. I always applaud people that watch the film credits, not just because they think Spider-Man is going to return. So is this the awkward time to tell you that um when we're in gold class and on our date night and had a had a nice glass of wine or two, I did actually fall asleep in the last 45 minutes of Spider-Man. Did you really? And I don't actually know what happens. But I did call you daddy when we went home, so that's forgiven, right?

That is the biggest disappointment. Yeah, but heck you what yeah, alright. You know what? That doesn't surprise me. It doesn't surprise me. I don't care. I ate three things of popcorn and and stayed awake during the whole thing. I I love the whole lot. Um, but now I'm gonna have to make you watch the whole thing work uh when it comes out digitally and we can uh we can watch it on the TV, so you'll have to see what's happening.

So I saw as has the rest of the world, uh uh Nicole Kidman looks like she is repartned. Love that for Nicole. I was devastated when Nicole and uh Nicole, like I'm she's my best friend, when Nick and Keith, you know, that couple, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, when they broke up. Um I was really sad about it, like a lot of people were. I'm assuming you could take or leave it, or how did you feel about it, Hubby Justin?

Oh okay, so look I look I I was surprised for about a minute and then sort of moved on. But yeah, i look the thing is I love them as a couple, like I thought they were I thought they were great. She was great for him, you know. Because he he really straightened out as uh you know, as a husband and father with her, and um yeah, uh yeah, th because it was kind of one of those weird relationships when they got together, it was like, oh wow, those two, and then all of a sudden you just you know they were together for a long time.

They were together for t two decades. Yeah, I really liked them together, and especially after everything with Tom Cruise. I like Nicole Kidman, I like Keith Urban, but alas, you know, they've got divorced, life goes on, and you know, they're finding their separate ways now. But she has been confirmed um kissing a guy, and if you're kissing on the lips, then that means you're a couple. Although I say that, but in my twenties I used to for fun via one of my best friends, he's a guy, Scott. We just pretend we were a couple when we're out at a bar and just kiss, like there was no feelings. This was way before you.

I know it's very young and silly and fun, but that's what you do. But you know, if you're Nicole Kidman, I guess you're not doing that unless it's official. I feel bad for her from a fame component because neither has confirmed that relationship. Like, what a weird thing that you're a normal human being, um, and then you're photographed with your lover, if you will, in Italy.

And in California, they have and they all push for this, the celebrities. And a lot in celebrity world, there's a grey area where a celebrity can become a politician. I mean, look at Schwarzenegger for a start, and he's from the friggin' terminator and he became governor of California.

Yeah. And so um, with that, they started to kind of create change because the people that were Papped themselves got annoyed and then literally became government and elected change. So you can't, you know, it's illegal to take photos of a celebrity's child. It's a le it's illegal to take a photo of a celebrity from out the front of their porch via a glass door. Like there are good rules in Australia. It's like very lax. It's like, oh, there's you know, Zach Efron or the Hemsworth.

Excuse me. I've been in TV Week many times. Um TV Week if you're listening. But no, what I think it is, I think a lot of A-listers come to Australia because they get more anonymous time.

Like Well, you go back alright, let's go back to the time when Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were together and they came they were in Australia. I I specifically remember this because it was such a big thing that the fact is that they could walk around the streets of Sydney and go shopping and doing that as a couple, and go even though they were the two biggest movie stars on the planet at that particular time. Um and it was such a big thing about you know, you come to Australia, you can actually do that here. You can't do that, you you know, you can't do that in LA, you certainly can't do it in London. Like, you know, the paparazzi in both those cities is just uh relentless.

You know, I I even stripped off and no one took all my too much. I did get arrested. I did take a mugshot, but that was it.

Good one. No, but I like that about Australia. It you know, it makes you a bit proud, I think, that even though our country has so many issues and um at very much at sorry at various times, our country is not feeling as safe as it used to. It's just not. There's a crime rise, there's all that shit. But Matt Damon, for instance, uh you know, he comes to Byron all the time. He's apparently owns one now in Byron Bay. And I saw Matt Damon in 2002 when he came out to a film premiere of the Born Identity.

You were on the same flight as Matt Damon coming back from was it coming back from LA?

When I went to LA two years ago, I remember that. I went to LA and um I flew to Brisbane and um You weren't in the same classes. No.

We always say that when we get on a plane, Justin and I, we go, one day, one day when we step on that plane. We'll turn left. We'll turn left. You know, when you get on a plane and you absolutely turn right to go down to economy, we're like, one day we'll turn left. But no, Matt Damon was um I was in the corner's club because you know we had those points, and so I got uh some corner's points to go in, you know, have a shower and have some dinner and stuff. But I saw him in there, um, and I thought, oh, he might be going to LA. Yes, he was. He was on the same flight, he was in first, I was in Economy, but then I saw him at LAX, that's the airport in LA, um, and he was getting off and walking toward me, and you could see the immediate difference in even the way he stood. In Australia, he was relaxed and he was calm and you know it wasn't a big deal. Whereas in LA, he was immediately I could tell he was friendly, but he just head down, he just wanted to get out of there. Security was ushering him through it. It was a different world. It really was. So whether you're Nicole Kidman, whether you're Joe Blow down the street, um, I guess sometimes, even though we live in this crazy country of ours, which has a lot of work to be done, we advocate for this on this show.

We love celebrities and we welcome celebrities, but you know, uh unless you're a paparazzi, uh I think in Australia, you're not mobbing people. You just should generally respect people's, you know. Well we'll respect their space and their privacy and things like that, but it's kind of the Aussie Way, isn't it?

Like you just don't want to embarrass yourself either and shoot people down and take fame too seriously. So I welcome that about us. And I think that's why Nicole Kidman keeps coming back and and still lives here. I saw Nicole Kidman's late, great, wonderful father. Um, he was an incredible doctor, and I once sat down and and had a therapy session with him, and he never spoke about his daughter, obviously, because she was so famous. Um but given the fact that I'd worked in TV for a little while, he um he understorry, Nicole is the star, my god. I'm not trying to say otherwise, but I mean he um brought it up a little bit in a private manner, which I won't quote. I mean I was very young, but just to kind of say how the fame thing is not real, no matter what people do. A camera is just a camera, is just a camera, like this is a microphone, you know, and it really drummed into you like um how his family have always protected Nicole Kidman, and she was really close to her parents who both passed away.

I'm glad she's found happiness because I was sad when she and Keith Urban broke up, um, even though we don't know them and it was none of our business, and maybe she was elated because divorce can be a beautiful thing, and I'll happily say that we saw the photos of Nicole Kidman literally dancing on the street when her divorce from Tom Cruise was confirmed.
